13.06.2012

According to the data reported by the operators active on the Romanian electronic communications market, the revenues obtained from the provision of electronic communications networks and services amounted to RON 14.8 billion in 2011 (approx. EUR 3.5 billion), down by 3% as compared to 2010. The report on the value added services, electronic communications service packages and revenues obtained from the provision of electronic communications networks and services, for the last six months of 2011, was published today by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) on its website (www.ancom.org.ro).
The decrease registered in 2011 in terms of total revenues is considerably lower than that registered in the previous year, i.e. -7%, while the analysis of the half-yearly revenues reveals an increase of +5.5% in the second semester of 2011 as compared to the first half of the year. Thus, the revenues obtained in the second semester from the provision of mobile telephone networks and services rose by 7% (to RON 3.9 billion), the revenues obtained from the provision of Internet access services grew by 8% (to RON 1 billion), the revenues obtained from the provision of audiovisual programme retransmission services increased by 2% (to RON 0.8 billion), while the revenues obtained from the provision of fixed telephone networks and services remained relatively steady, going down by 0.5% (to RON 1.1 billion). The most significant half-yearly take-ups were reported for the revenues achieved from the provision of value added services (+36%, to RON 86 million) and, respectively, the revenues generated from the provision of data transmission services (+24%, to RON 201 million).
The revenues obtained from the provision of mobile telephone services (37%), terrestrial mobile public networks (14%) and Internet access services (13%) hold the largest shares within the structure of total revenues achieved in the electronic communications market.
“The increase of the operators’ revenues in the second half of 2011 indicates that the electronic communications market has reached a level of stability after the difficult period which the entire economy underwent in the past 3 years. The providers present on the market adapted themselves to the economic reality and managed to reconfigure their offers so as to reduce the effects of the economic downturn” , Mr. Cătălin Marinescu, the president of ANCOM, emphasised.

The statistical data report was elaborated based on the data reported by the providers of electronic communications services who carried out commercial activities between 1 July and 31 December 2011, and is available for consultation here.
