DAN GEORGESCU

Dan Georgescu has been appointed President of the National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRC) in March 2005, after being the President of a teleccommunications operators’ association, which he founded in 2003.

 

He is a graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, and has built his whole career in the sector of electronic communications and postal services.

                

He has extensive technical background, he was in charge of the fixed and mobile radiocommunications networks of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and, subsequently, he has been responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the national radiocommunications networks within the Special Telecommunications Service. He was a member of the Board of the National Radiocommunications Company (SNR) between 1998 – 1999, then the President of the Board, and, between 1999 – 2001, he served as the unique administrator of this company. He made a significant contribution to the development and modernisation of  SNR, which became the second largest national telephony operator. He initiated and coordinated the SNR preparations for privatisation. Between 1997 and 1998, he was a member of the Board of the National Company Romanian Post. He also held the General Manager position within MobilCom, a privately owned telecommunications company.

 

Dan Georgescu has acquired extensive experience in the field of public administration, as well.  Between 1996 and 2003, he was a Counsellor of the former five ministers of communications, and contributed to the elaboration of legislation, participated in the process of privatisation and of issuing the licenses for the major national operators. He was appointed the representative of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology within the Inter-ministerial Committee for elaborating the Annual Plan of Accession to NATO.

 

Dan Georgescu is also a graduate of the United States Telecommunications Training Institute courses, he graduated the National Defence College and the courses of the Motorola University.

 

For outstanding sportive performance between 1969 and 1979, while a member of the national basketball team,  Dan Georgescu was awarded the “Master of Sports” title.
