Today, the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), in cooperation with the Romanian Gendarmerie, carried out an inspection at the Dragonul Roșu shopping complex as part of an enforcement action aimed at combating the sale of non-compliant radio equipment.
During today’s inspection, authorities identified non-compliant equipment on sale, such as wireless speakers, wireless headphones, FM modulators, wireless doorbells, radio receivers, and wireless keyboard-and-mouse kits.
Non-Compliant Equipment Can Affect Emergency Communications
ANCOM warns that the use of non-compliant radio equipment may generate harmful interference to electronic communications. In extreme cases, such interference can affect the operation of essential services, including calls to the single emergency number 112, the fire brigade or the police.
Inspection Results
As part of this operation, most of the retail stands selling electronic equipment were checked. ANCOM staff applied 74 contravention sanctions, totaling RON 347,000.
Inspectors verified whether the products offered for sale:
- bore the CE marking;
- were accompanied by an EU Declaration of Conformity;
- included user instructions in Romanian;
- complied with all legal obligations applicable to manufacturers, importers, and distributors.
At the same time, traders received information regarding the legal requirements necessary to conduct their activities in full compliance with applicable regulations.
More than 1,000 inspections conducted this year
The inspection at Dragonul Roșu is part of a broader market surveillance campaign carried out by ANCOM to identify non-compliant products placed on the Romanian market.
In 2026 alone, ANCOM has already inspected over 1,000 stores, while in 2025 the Authority conducted nearly 2,500 inspections in the field of radio equipment and electromagnetic compatibility.
How compliant products can be recognised
The CE marking is one of the main indicators that a product complies with the applicable requirements of the European Union. Equipment sold on the European market without this marking is automatically considered non-compliant.
Radio equipment is considered compliant when it:
- does not endanger the health and safety of users;
- does not generate electromagnetic disturbances that affect other equipment;
- uses radio spectrum efficiently;
- complies with all administrative and technical requirements provided by the legislation.
Equipment that does not use radio spectrum efficiently may generate interference that affects, obstructs, or even disrupts radiocommunication services.
ANCOM’s recommendation for consumers
To avoid purchasing non-compliant products, ANCOM recommends that consumers verify the presence of the CE marking, purchase equipment only from trusted retailers, and read the instructions and warnings provided with the product.
Additional information regarding the obligations of manufacturers, importers, and distributors, as well as examples of compliant and non-compliant equipment, is available on ANCOM’s website.
