Www.aisemnal.ro was visited 1.6 million times in the first year

 28.10.2020

The map www.aisemnal.ro is an interactive platform developed by ANCOM, displaying the mobile service coverage and signal level throughout Romania, as revealed by the Authority’s measurements. In its first year, www.aisemnal.ro was visited more than 1.6 million times. In 2020, the map has been upgraded to include the localities where the users are at risk of inadvertent roaming.

The first anniversary

Since 22 October 2019, when it was launched, the coverage map has been visited 1,610,335 times.

The national mobile coverage map – www.aisemnal.ro – is an online platform that enables users to find out the mobile service coverage and the level of 2G, 3G and 4G signal for each of the mobile operators on the Romanian market. The map has been developed entirely by ANCOM based on the measurements carried out during the campaign for monitoring the mobile operators’ compliance with the coverage obligations regarding voice services, in 2019.

In June 2020, the platform was upgraded to include the localities where the users could incur inadvertent (involuntary) roaming charges, by marking points at street level. Thus, the Authority marked, and placed on the map, 295,630 points where the users are at risk of involuntary roaming in localities situated within 15 km from the country boundaries. Involuntary roaming may occur in the border areas of Romania only if a user’s roaming service is enabled and his/her mobile telephone or tablet is set to automatically find a network. Therefore, the mobile terminal will automatically connect to the network of the operator with the strongest signal in the respective area.

Next, the map is to be updated with results of the measurements for coverage with mobile voice signal, as revealed by the current monitoring campaign, which is scheduled to last from August to November 2020.

So far, for 2020, aisemnal.ro displays the results of measurements from the following counties: Alba, Arad, Braila, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Brasov, Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta, Covasna, Galati, Giurgiu, Ialomita, Iasi, Ilfov, Harghita, Maramures, Mures, Salaj, Sibiu, Satu Mare, Timis, Tulcea, Vaslui, Valcea and Vrancea, which enables the users to see the annual dynamics of coverage for these counties.

How to use www.aisemnal.ro

The map is easy to use: to check an operator’s coverage at national level, the users must select the operator and one or several technologies (2G, 3G or 4G). Users interested in checking the signal level in a certain locality must select the locality concerned. The map’s visitors can also set the location finding option to check signal coverage at the user’s location. The map available at www.aisemnal.ro, displays the localities with the best mobile signal and those with weaker or no signal. Thus, the users may have a full and accurate picture of the mobile signal coverage ensured by all the operators in Romania. Moreover, based on the information available therein, the users are empowered to sign a services contract with the operator providing the best coverage in their area. Â
