Migration to 1800 MHz Successfully Finalised, Preparations for 900 MHz

04.04.2014

The mobile communications operators who obtained spectrum resources in the 2012 auction have successfully finalised the migration of their networks in the 1800 MHz bands allotted in the auction.
The migration in the 1800 MHz band took place during the night of 31 March - 1 April, between 00.00 and 4.00 hours. No incidents were registered during the operations and the impact on the supply of services to the end-users was minimum.
The Authority monitored the transition process by constantly performing measurements throughout the country.
The mobile communications operators (Cosmote, Orange, RCS&RDS and Vodafone) are now to implement the second stage of the switch-over, for the 900MHz bands. This will take place during the night of 4 - 5 April, under the same conditions announced for the previous stage. Within the transition process, signal loss, busy tone or other technical errors similar to those occurred during routine maintenance works may happen for short intervals. ANCOM will monitor this process as well, in order to ensure an effective transition and the quick intervention of the operators’ technical teams should deficiencies occur.
