Starting May 5, 2008, the Central Database for the Implementation of Number Portability in Romania Will Be Available for the Operators’ Tests

On April 16, 2008, at the ANRCTI headquarters, the Authority’s representatives and specialists of UTI Systems met the operators of fixed and mobile telephone services, informing them on the completion of the central database for the implementation of number portability. On this occasion, the participants established the schedule for the period up to the date of actual implementation of number portability, i.e. October 21, 2008.

The providers were informed that, starting from May 5, 2008, they are invited to test the database, both by means of the graphic interface, and by automatic interface with the database. Tests will be conducted between May 5 and May 31, 2008, when the database is to be assessed functional. The ANRCTI and the UTI representatives will present the testing procedure on May 5, 2008, during a training session dedicated to the operators’ representatives. The training session will be hosted by the ANRCTI headquarters.

With a view to the successful implementation of number portability, during May 31 – October 1, 2008, a series of tests will check the central database interoperability with the providers’ IT systems. These tests will be assisted by UTI Systems, so that, on October 21, 2008, the number portability service should be available for all the users of fixed and mobile telephony.

The database has been created within the PHARE project entitled "Support to the National Regulatory Authority for Communications (ANRC) for the implementation of a Central Database System for Number Portability", a project financed from PHARE  Funds (75%), through the PHARE 2005 programme - "Facilities for special actions" - and by ANRCTI (25%).
