How to Choose the Best Black Friday Telecom Offer

17.11.2016

This is a period when the providers of electronic communications services launch promotional offers, on Black Friday, therefore the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications of Romania (ANCOM) advises the users to inform themselves before choosing a telephony, internet or television offer, so they could find the offer that best fits their communication and consumption needs.

Whether it is a smartphone, a tablet or a TV set with a substantial discount, before subscribing to telephone or internet services, the users should check details such as:
  • the minimum contract period, i.e. the period for which a user cannot terminate the contract without paying early termination penalties, which is legally limited to 12 or 24 months for telecom contracts;
  • the amount of a monthly subscription that enables purchasing terminal equipment at discount prices or receiving it for free;
  • the exact interval during which the user would benefit from the advertised discounted monthly subscription fee;
  • the coverage, for mobile telephony and Internet – which can be found directly from a provider’s stores / payment desks, or accessing the coverage maps available on its website.
  • the amount of minutes / SMS / traffic included in the subscription, the networks where these can be used, the order of consumption and the charges applied after reaching the respective limit;
  • whether - and under what conditions - a provider can block access to or charge additional charges for using certain applications (VoIP, file sharing, etc.)
ANCOM offers tools for choosing an offer

ANCOM makes available to the users two independent and objective instruments by means of which they can choose the telephony and internet offers that best fit their communication needs:
  • www.veritel.ro – the telecom offer comparison tool, which generates the list of the top 25 tariff plans for telephone and internet services available in Romania, based on the individual profile configured by each user;
  • www.netograf.ro – the application for testing the internet service quality, which – in the Statistics section – offers details on the average country-wide and local speeds offered by the providers of fixed and, respectively, mobile internet services in Romania, as actually experimented by the users.
Further details about telephony, Internet and television services are available in ANCOM’s InfoCentre, here.
