ANCOM’s spectrum monitoring equipment, at the BSDA international exhibition and conference

18.05.2022

On 18 and 20 May 2022, ANCOM participates, as an exhibitor, in the international Exhibition and Conference Black Sea Defense and Aerospace (BSDA). The event, dedicated to the aeronautical industry, to national defence, homeland security and private security, is organized within the ROMAERO Baneasa Complex. "This is the first time that we have exhibited our monitoring equipment at an event of this magnitude. ANCOM monitors and measures the use of spectrum resources using a monitoring system consisting of fixed and mobile monitoring stations, goniometry and geolocation systems, as well as special vehicles provided with specific equipment for measuring the quality of and coverage with communications services. Moreover, we would like to present the tools developed by ANCOM for electronic communications services users. We hope that the visitors of the BSDA Exhibition and Conference will find out as much relevant information as possible regarding the equipment and the activity of the Authority", declared the President of ANCOM, Vlad STOICA.

ANCOM monitoring equipment

ANCOM participates for the first time as an exhibitor in Black Sea Defense & Aerospace - BSDA. The Authority exhibits equipment from the National Spectrum Monitoring System (SNMS) of the institution, namely mobile spectrum monitoring stations and special vehicles that are used both to measure the degree of coverage with mobile voice signal and for the activity of monitoring the frequency spectrum in Romania.

ANCOM tools

Furthermore, the representatives of the Authority will provide thorough details about the information tools dedicated to electronic communications users in Romania: www.monitor-emf.ro and www.aisemnal.ro.

ANCOM constantly monitors the electromagnetic field strength level generated by the transmitters used in the provision of broadcasting and mobile telephony services (including 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G), or by other radiocommunication stations, through the 150 fixed sensors that work permanently and are located in Bucharest and 103 other localities in the country. Moreover, the Authority carries out measurements of the electromagnetic field strength level using the mobile equipment of the institution.

The results of all measurements are publicly available on www.monitor-emf.ro and any person interested or concerned in this regard can have access to information on the electromagnetic field strength levels registered in Romania from one website, which is permanently updated, and also displays the variation of such levels over time.

The national map of coverage with mobile voice services – www.aisemnal.ro is the online platform  where users can find out exactly the coverage of a certain network at a certain point, as well as the 2G, 3G and 4G signal level for each of the mobile operators active on the Romanian market.

www.aisemnal.ro includes data obtained in ANCOM’s campaigns for measuring the degree of coverage with mobile voice signal, carried out every year, ever since 2019. Thus, users can follow the dynamics of coverage with mobile voice signal in 2019, 2020 and 2021, while having the opportunity to check the overall coverage with mobile communications services countrywide.

The map also indicates the localities where users may be subject to inadvertent roaming, identifying and marking 298,674 points with a potential risk of inadvertent roaming, within 15 km from the country's borders.

Recently, ANCOM has started the campaign for measuring the degree of coverage with mobile signal in Romania, for the year 2022.
