ANCOM

As part of the official visits organised by the Romanian Government to the Persian Gulf states, the President of ANCOM, Valeriu ZGONEA, held a bilateral meeting with the counterpart Authority of the State of Qatar, during which the two sides agreed on the future signing of a collaboration agreement between their institutions.

The parties finalized the technical details and agreed on signing, in the near future, a Memorandum of Understanding on facilitating cooperation and information exchange in the field of electronic communications between the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications of Romania and the Communications Regulatory Authority of the State of Qatar.

The discussions  focused on identifying the appropriate framework that would enable the two authorities to cooperate on exchanges of expertise, procedures, and coordinated positions within the international bodies operating under the United Nations, as well as any other forms of collaboration that could contribute to the development of the communications sector in each country. Notably, Qatar will host the 2026 Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)—an event successfully hosted by Romania in 2022 in Bucharest. In this context, the Qatari authority requested working meetings with the ANCOM team responsible for organizing the 2022 conference, in order to benefit from their experience.

Additionally, the two sides discussed several current topics of interest, including satellite communication systems, the regulation of Non‑Terrestrial Network (NTN) systems, artificial intelligence, and the development of more effective information tools for end‑users.
