ANCOM is showcasing during these days, to visitors attending the Black Sea Defense and Aerospace (BSDA) expo‑conference, the equipment and specialized vehicles used in its activities for monitoring and controlling radio frequency spectrum resources. At the Authority’s two stands—one outdoor and one indoor—the attending team is also providing interested visitors with details about the instruments developed for users of electronic communications services, thereby contributing to ensuring efficient and secure connectivity in Romania.
The BSDA exhibition, taking place from today until Friday, 24 May 2024, at the ROMAERO Băneasa Complex, represents an important opportunity for ANCOM to share its expertise in the communications field and to strengthen partnerships with other institutions and companies from the defense and aeronautics industry.
ANCOM’s monitoring equipment
ANCOM monitors and controls the use of spectrum resources through a monitoring system consisting of fixed and mobile stations, direction‑finding and geolocation systems, as well as special vehicles equipped with instruments designed to verify the quality and coverage of communication services. At the Black Sea Defense and Aerospace (BSDA) event, the Authority is exhibiting equipment from the National Spectrum Monitoring System (NSMS).
ANCOM’s Information Tools
At the same time, the Authority’s representatives will provide visitors with detailed information about the information tools dedicated to electronic communications users in Romania: www.monitor-emf.ro and www.aisemnal.ro.
ANCOM continuously monitors the strength of the electromagnetic field generated by the transmitters used to provide radio-TV and mobile telephony services (including 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G) or by other radiocommunication stations through the 200 permanently operating fixed sensors installed in Bucharest and more than 140 localities nationwide. Additionally, the Authority performs electromagnetic field measurements using mobile equipment in its fleet.
All measurement results are publicly available on the www.monitor-emf.ro providing any interested or concerned person with access to up‑to‑date information on electromagnetic field levels in Romania, including the ability to track their evolution over time.
The National Mobile Voice Coverage Map – www.aisemnal.ro is the digital platform that allows users to see the exact coverage level and the 2G, 3G, and 4G signal strength for each mobile operator active on the Romanian market.
www.aisemnal.ro includes information collected through ANCOM’s voice coverage measurement campaigns carried out since 2019. Users can view the evolution of mobile voice coverage from 2019 to 2022, as well as the cumulative nationwide coverage for voice services.
indicates localities where users may experience involuntary roaming, marking locations within 15 km of Romania’s borders where there is potential risk of entering involuntary roaming.
Recently, ANCOM launched a campaign to measure the level of mobile signal coverage in Romania, verify areas with involuntary roaming risk, and assess data service quality in several cities.
BSDA 2024
The Black Sea Defense and Aerospace (BSDA) event is held every two years since 2007 and is one of the world’s largest events in the defense industry.
The 9th edition, taking place from 22–24 May 2024 at the ROMAERO Băneasa Complex, is organized by TNT Production Romania with the support of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Economy – ANCEX, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications Service, ANCOM, and the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, and is accredited by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Over 400 companies from Romania and around the world are participating, showcasing equipment and vehicles used for land, air, and naval defense, as well as a significant number of specialist visitors from across the globe.
