ANCOM hosted in Bucharest, between 1 and 3 September 2026, the 27th edition of the International Space Radio Monitoring Meeting (ISRMM27) – an international forum dedicated to the exchange of experience in the field of space radio monitoring.
The event, opened by the President of ANCOM, Valeriu Zgonea, and the Director General of the Romanian Space Agency, Daniel-Eugeniu Crunțeanu, brought together representatives of regulatory authorities from countries around the world, as well as recognized experts from the satellite sector, including space agencies, satellite operators, academia and international organizations.
As part of the event, participants also had the opportunity to visit the Cheia Satellite Communications Station in Prahova County, the largest teleport in Central and South-Eastern Europe.
Key themes on the agenda
During the meeting, participants addressed topical issues related to the monitoring of the radio spectrum used by geostationary and non-geostationary satellite systems and constellations (GSO and NGSO), the detection and geolocation of unauthorised signals and terminals, real-time spectrum analysis and the characterisation of LEO satellite signals, as well as the detection and assessment of interference that may affect satellite navigation systems.
The agenda also covered topics related to the international regulatory framework applicable to harmful interference, the monitoring of NGSO constellations, the use of distributed and transportable monitoring systems, the analysis and correlation of measurement data. Participants examined technological solutions for the detection, characterization and geolocation of interference, with particular attention given to measurement quality and traceability, data correlation from multiple sources, and the need for technical results to be verifiable and transparent.
Discussions further highlighted the international nature of the challenges associated with monitoring radio spectrum used for satellite communications and underscored the importance of close cooperation among all stakeholders, including as regards interference cases, geolocation methods, and investigation and resolution procedures.
By hosting ISRMM27, ANCOM facilitated the exchange of technical expertise and best practices among regulatory authorities, international organisations, space agencies and industry specialists, at a time when the rapid evolution of satellite systems and the growing complexity of the radio environment call for even closer international cooperation.
