The internet services market in Romania continues to expand, supported by a 45% jump in 5G adoption and the expansion of fiber optic connections (+7%). ANCOM data for 2025 indicate a mature of fixed internet connections, with a significant advance in rural areas (+6%) and in the Gigabit connections segment (+14%). This had a significant impact at economic level, as internet services generated the largest share of telecom sector revenues (41%). Infographic available here.

Fixed Internet
- over 7 million fixed internet connections (+3%), with an increase of 6% in rural areas and only 1% in urban areas;
- 4 out of 10 connections are Gigabit (+14%), mainly amid the expansion of fibre-to-the-home/business (FTTH), reaching 5.7 million connections (+7%);
- average monthly traffic reached 102 GB per inhabitant (+15%);
- top 3 providers, by number of connections: Digi 74%, Orange 15% and Vodafone 10%.
Mobile Internet
- 3 million active connections, of which 19.5 million used 4G and/or 5G;
- 4G networks continue to underpin mobile internet consumption, accounting for 91% of the total traffic;
- 5G connections increased in 2025 by 45%, exceeding 5 million;
- the average monthly traffic reached 7 GB per inhabitant (+16%), i.e. 0.5 GB/day;
- Digi and Orange each hold around 35% of the number of active connections, followed by Vodafone (21%).
Mobile telephony
- the number of SIM cards remained stable (22.8 million), with growth in subscriptions (+5%) offsetting the decrease in active prepaid cards (-13%);
- voice traffic continued its decline on a more abrupt trend (-5%), reaching 55 billion minutes, i.e. an average of 242 minutes per capita per month;
- by number of active cards, the top two operators are Digi and Orange, each holding around 34% market share, followed by Vodafone (24%).
Television
- the number of subscribers to TV retransmission services remained above 7.8 million;
- the sustained migration of subscribers from satellite and IPTV services (-170 thousand) to cable services (+170 thousand) continues;
- by total number of subscribers, Digi holds 77% of the market, followed by Orange with 13% and Vodafone with 8%.
Telecom revenues
- total telecom sector revenues saw a slight decrease (-0.8%) compared to 2024, reaching RON 16 billion (approximately EUR 3.2 billion);
- Internet services accounted for the largest share of revenues (41%);
- Revenue shares by operator: Orange (33%), Digi (32%), Vodafone (23%).
All of the above figures reflect annual developments as of December 31, 2025 (i.e. 2025), compared to the situation as of December 31, 2024 (i.e. 2024).
