Revenues of RON 14.83 Billion from the Provision of Electronic Communications Networks Services in Romania in 2012

According to the data reported by the providers operating in the Romanian electronic communications market, the total revenues obtained from the provision of electronic communications networks and services amounted to RON 14.83 billion (approx. EUR 3.3 billion) in 2012, up by 0.2% from 2011. The revenues on the retail market, up by 1.8% as compared to 2011, account for 76% of the total revenues.
The total revenues from the provision of the electronic communications networks and services on the retail market reached RON 11.25 billion, of which RON 5.45 billion were obtained from mobile telephone services, RON 2.16 billion from internet access services, RON 1.58 billion from audiovisual media programme retransmission services, and RON 1.44 billion from fixed telephone services. Among these, the revenues from the provision of internet access services registered the highest increase (17.4% as compared to 2011), a significant rise of 45.3% being registered by the revenues obtained from the mobile internet access services, which amounted to RON 854 million in 2012.
The most important shares in the revenues on the retail market are held by the revenues from the provision of mobile telephone services (37%), followed by those from internet access services (approx. 15%) and those from linear audiovisual media programme retransmission services (11%).
The revenues obtained from the provision of electronic communications services on the wholesale market dropped by 4.4% in 2012 as compared to 2011, to RON 3.59 million. The revenues from the interconnection with other fixed/mobile public networks for call transit and termination at fixed locations amounted in 2012 to RON 546 million, down by 5% as compared to the previous year, while the revenues from the interconnection with other fixed/mobile public networks for call transit and termination at mobile locations fell by 10%, to RON 1.94 billion.
The statistical data report on the Romanian electronic communications market in this year’s first half was elaborated based on the data reported by the providers of electronic communications services, which carried out commercial activities between 1 January and 30 June 2013, respectively by the providers of electronic communications services which registered revenues in 2012, and is available for consultation here.
