Number portability anniversary: more than 7 million numbers ported in 12 years

Since 21 October 2008, when number portability was launched, enabling the users to choose the offer that best suits their consumption needs while keeping their telephone numbers, more than 7 million telephone numbers have been ported among the networks in Romania. This year, almost 670,000 telephone numbers have been ported, of which 93% were mobile telephone numbers.
 
12 years of number portability
 
During the 12 years since the launch of number portability, 7,005,720 numbers were ported, of which 6,121,287 mobile telephone numbers and 884,433 fixed telephone numbers.
 
Portability statistics 2020
 
From the beginning of 2020 until 30 September, 667,469 telephone numbers were ported, of which 623,077 mobile and 44,392 fixed.
During this period, 266,661 mobile telephone numbers were ported to RCS&RDS’ network, 107,830 to Telekom Romania Communications, 95,640 to Vodafone, 87,790 to Orange and 65,138 numbers to Telekom Romania Mobile Communications.
Concerning fixed telephony, RCS&RDS acquired 18,491 numbers by porting, Orange 11,152, Vodafone 9,556, GTS Telekom 2,198 and Telekom Romania Communications 796 numbers.
 
Users’ complaints
 
In 2020, ANCOM received 168 complaints from the users, regarding the porting process. The main issues concerned failure to observe the deadlines in the porting process, porting rejection and assignment of provisional numbers.  
 
User information
 
On the website www.portabilitate.ro, the users can find the network of any ported telephone number used in Romania, may it be ported or not. The website offers details on the steps to be taken in order to port a telephone number, answers to frequently asked questions in case of porting a number, as well as advice for preventing possible problems in the porting process.
