ANCOM Hosted the Second Meeting of the CEE Regional Working Group on Spectrum Usage Harmonisation

30.03.2012

The National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) hosted on Thursday and Friday, 29-30 March 2012, in Bucharest, the work meeting of the regional working group for Central and Eastern Europe dedicated to the Mobile Communications Spectrum Harmonisation.

In the presence of the high-level representative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Mr. Francois Rancy, Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau, the 11 states in the region attending the meeting: Albania, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Republic of Serbia, Slovenia and Hungary debated in the first day of the event the status of the digital switchover and of the digital dividend band use in the region, the need to harmonise the use of the 800 MHz and 2600 MHz bands, as well as the steps to be taken in order to achieve a swift regional coordination in the spectrum usage field.
The second day took the form of a workshop on planning and organizing a spectrum auction. Considering that the countries in the region have relatively low experience in organising a spectrum auction, a mock auction was carried out during the second day, with the support of the consultancy firm NERA Consulting.Â
